“This voltage range and power level make this solution ideal for a variety of three-phase brushless DC motor applications with input voltages from 36 to 80 V, including e-bikes, e-scooters, power tools, drones, robots, DC servo drives, medical robotics and manufacturing automation,” according to EPC, the manufacturer of the demo board and the GaN modules that go with it.

The three IC-sized modules are EPC23102 power stages that contain a half-bridge gate driver and two 5.2mΩ (typ.) GaN power transistors. The driver part includes level switching and synchronous initial charging with a trip contact to save energy. Such modules eliminate the complexity of designing a gate actuator that is easy to get wrong.

The board includes adjustable auxiliary power buses for home maintenance, as well as voltage, temperature and current protection and measurement.
