Launch rails – as the name suggests – are a critical component for guiding launch vehicles and enabling suborbital launches. The installation work is being funded by the UK Space Agency to the tune of £378,000.
In particular, the spaceport entered into a manufacturing contract with Lerwick Engineering and Fabrication. T12, the design specialists, will design and build the launch pad for SaxaVord on the Lamba Ness Peninsula in Anstey, Shetland.
The SkyReach project is supposed to “commence at the beginning of next year. year,” starting with suborbital launches, followed by vertical orbital launches scheduled for later in 2023.
