The series consists of Arm Cortex-M7 microcontroller core with support for Arm Cortex-M0+. It has a dual flash bank that allows updates to be loaded into one flash bank while the device's previous firmware runs on the second bank before reboot and switches to the new firmware. This feature allows for remote maintenance and updates.

Manufactured on a 40nm process, the XMC7100 and XMC7200 microcontrollers have up to 8MB of flash memory and 1MB of RAM and sufficient computing performance for industrial applications such as PWM generation for motor power cascade control and radar-based level measurement . Supply voltage range from 2.7 to 5.5 V. In addition to motor control, low-power devices can be used in industrial drives, robotics, electric vehicle charging, electric bicycles, battery management systems, programmable logic controllers, and I/O applications. In deep sleep mode, power consumption is only 8 μA. The microcontrollers are also equipped with a number of peripherals such as up to two GbE, CAN-FD, Crypto Engine software, SMIF (Serial Memory Interface that allows connection to external devices with a low pin count) and SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) ( SDHC).

The operating temperature range is from -40 °C to +125 °C, and the microcontrollers are available in TQFP and LFBGA packages with 100 to 272 pins.
