These are the first 64-bit STM32 chips in the STM32MP2 series (all were previously 32-bit), and the first in the series will be the STM32MP25, available with one or two 1.5 GHz 64-bit Arm Cortex-A35 cores (up to 6000 DMIPS), which work together with an integrated 400 MHz Cortex-M33 core for real-time processing. External 32-bit DDR4 and LPDDR4 memory modules are supported.

“A dedicated NPU [neural processor] adds up to 1.35Top/s of computing muscle optimized to accelerate peripheral AI in applications such as machine vision and predictive maintenance,” according to ST.

Communication facilities include Gigabit TSN (Time Sensitive Network) with two-port Gigabit Ethernet TSN switch, PCIe, USB 3.0 and CAN-FD peripherals.

Data hubs and gateways are potential applications. "For example, the MPU can receive video from a 5-megapixel sensor at 30 fps, perform analytics with the Edge AI accelerator, and send the corresponding video by encoding with a hardware encoder," said S.T.

It comes with a 1080p 3D GPU with 1080p video support (1.35Top/s) that supports real-time Vulkan graphics for Android apps. The 1080p codec has connections including LVDS, 4-lane MIPI DSI and MIPI CSI-2 for cameras with Raw-Bayer image sensors.

"Security features that enable SESIP Level 3 certification include Arm's TrustZone architecture and resource isolation framework," said ST. “This is complemented by secure key storage, secure boot, unique device identifier in one-time programmable memory, hardware cryptographic mechanisms and on-the-fly DDR encryption and decryption.”

<p>-40 to +125°C operating range, the package includes a 0.8mm pitch TFBGA package designed for four-layer PCBs, and the STM32MP2 MPUs have a 10-year lifetime from ST.

STM32MP25 samples and evaluation boards are available to "select OEM customers," ST said. Serial production of chips and boards is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2024.

The STM32MPU ecosystem includes the OpenSTLinux distribution with an AI framework (X-Linux-AI). For the included Cortex-M33 core, there are STM32Cube development tools whose firmware will run on bare metal or OSRV.

. Specifications have not yet been released, as details are currently only available to pre-selected alpha customers, ST Electronics Weekly reported.
