Messe München India, the Indian subsidiary of Messe München GmbH and India's leading exhibition organizer, and SEMI, a global industry association that fosters the growth of 3,000 member companies and helps the semiconductor industry deploy the latest technologies worldwide, officially signed a partnership agreement for the placement of SEMICON India exhibitions. The event will be held in association with Electronica India and Productronica India, thus creating Southeast Asia's single largest platform to showcase the latest developments in electronics and semiconductors.
The collaboration follows earlier announcements by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) at SemiconIndia 2023 in Gandhinagar and subsequently at SEMICON India during Electronica India and productronica India 2023 in Bengaluru, marking a significant step forward. in developing India's domestic semiconductor ecosystem and connecting it to the global industry.
India has become an attractive location for manufacturing and sourcing of semiconductors due to the rapid growth of the domestic market, the demand for advanced electronics including electric vehicles, and the rapid development of the supply chain for machinery, components, assembly, testing and many other specialized products and services.
Giving an insight into the opportunities that await SEMICON India attendees, Bhupinder Singh, CEO, Messe Muenchen India, said, “India's semiconductor demand today is estimated at $24 billion and is likely to become a $110 billion opportunity by 2030. This explains the initiatives of global semiconductor companies to enter the Indian market. As organizers of South Asia's largest electronics trade show – electronica India and productronica India, we are pleased to partner with SEMI to host SEMICON India. It will be a vital event for the semiconductor industry in India, providing a platform for companies across the semiconductor ecosystem to showcase their latest products and technologies, and engage with potential customers and partners. We are confident that SEMICON India will play a key role in the development of the domestic semiconductor ecosystem.”
Regarding SEMICON India, Ajit Manocha, President and CEO, SEMI, said, “Given the strengths of the Indian economy, the government's India Semiconductor mission is an open invitation to the world to manufacture and supply semiconductors in India. From policy support to talent availability and attractive demand, India has all the elements to succeed in semiconductor design and manufacturing. The country today needs a mature and sustainable supply chain capable of responding to exponential demand. SEMICON India will be a place where all stakeholders come together and build mutually beneficial partnerships to grow the ecosystem in India. We are therefore delighted to host SEMICON India together with our long-standing partners Messe München.”
SEMICON India will provide Indian semiconductor and electronics companies with access to the global semiconductor and electronics manufacturing and design supply chain, thereby integrating the upstream and downstream semiconductor value chains. In addition, it will provide a platform for stakeholders to participate in important initiatives in areas such as Workforce Development, Sustainability and Supply Chain Management to promote the development of the industry.
About this collaboration with SEMI, Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer, CEO, Messe München, said, “Today's global manufacturers are looking to diversify their supply chains and India offers the world a unique opportunity in this regard. We have had a successful partnership with SEMI in hosting SEMICON Europa in Munich, and the decision to co-host SEMICON India is a natural extension of that partnership. SEMICON India promises to be a vibrant meeting place for ideas and innovators from the global industry and I am very excited to see how this platform contributes to the development of the ecosystem in India.”
